Red Rose Florist
The best verified customer rating in this guide, off a Vyse Street counter.

Red Rose Florist has the highest verified customer rating of any florist in this guide, and it has earned it by doing ordinary things reliably rather than by doing anything unusual. The score is 4.91 out of 5 across 134 published reviews on Direct2Florist, which is a large enough sample that it stops being an accident. Read what the reviewers actually praise and it is always the same three things: the flowers arrived, they arrived when promised, and they lasted. That is a less glamorous proposition than a Chelsea medal and, for most of what people actually buy flowers for, a more useful one. Herlyn Shaw runs it as a family business on Vyse Street, in the middle of the jewellery trade rather than at its fashionable edge, and the shop behaves accordingly: sensible prices, a counter that gets answered, and a delivery operation that clearly works. What you do not get is a signature. Nothing on the published range would tell you which shop made it, and there is no stated position on seasonality or sourcing at all. If you want flowers that say something about your taste, this is not the shop. If you want flowers that arrive at your mother's house on the right morning and are still standing the following weekend, it is close to the best bet in the city.
Opening hours are unusually generous for the trade: 9am to 5pm Monday to Wednesday, 9am to 6pm on Thursday and Friday, and 9am to 4pm on Saturday. The Thursday and Friday extension is worth knowing, because most Birmingham florists shut at five sharp. The range covers weddings, funerals and everyday gifting, with same-day delivery locally and national fulfilment through the Direct2Florist network.
Best for
Sending flowers to someone else, remotely, with a high chance of it going right. This is the shop I would use if I were ordering from another city and had no way to check the result.
What I would order
Phone rather than order online, describe the recipient, and let them build it. The published catalogue undersells what the shop can do, and the reviews are consistently about bespoke work rather than about listed bouquets.
Worth knowing
There is no house style and no published seasonality or sustainability position, which is why it scores low on those measures. The reviews are excellent but they measure reliability, not design ambition, and it would be wrong to read them as the same thing.
4.91 out of 5 across 134 published reviews, the highest verified score on this list.
Who it is not for
Anyone who wants a designer to take a brief and run with it. For that, In Bloom is a few hundred yards away and has an actual point of view.
How it compares
Against Lily Jones, also in the quarter, this is the opposite trade-off: less technical ambition, far more evidence that ordinary orders go right. Both are good shops and they are not competing for the same customer.
Getting there
On Vyse Street, the main run of the Jewellery Quarter, two minutes from the Jewellery Quarter tram stop. The Vyse Street car parks are the nearest realistic parking, and metered street bays turn over slowly.
Where this assessment comes from
Desk research only. The rating and review count are read directly from the Direct2Florist profile on a single date and will move. The reliability judgement rests entirely on the pattern of those reviews. I have not ordered from the shop.
Sources consulted: The shop's own website, its Direct2Florist profile and the 134 reviews and 4.91 average recorded there, its Yelp and Florist Central listings, and the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter business directory entry.
This is a desk-based, opinion-led write-up, not an inspection: I have not audited this business, tested a delivery, or spoken to the owner. Everything above is one person’s reading of information that anyone can look up, and none of it represents the views of the owner of this domain. If you run this shop and something here is wrong or out of date, please tell me and I will fix it.
