Why there are so many

This is the part of Birmingham where independent retail actually works, and flowers have followed the bakeries, the record shops and the breweries. Moseley has a farmers' market and a village green. Kings Heath High Street has enough footfall to support Winspers and Whoops A Daisy a few hundred yards apart. Stirchley, which ten years ago was a row of shuttered units on the Pershore Road, now has hedge, which sells flowers alongside clothing and homeware and makes complete sense in that street and almost nowhere else.

The area also holds the most interesting studio on the list. Ash Tree Floral Designs works out of the Old Print Works on the Moseley Road in Balsall Heath, a shared creative building rather than a shopfront, and came back from the RHS Malvern Spring Festival in 2026 with a gold medal.

Getting around, and what it costs

The 50 bus down the Alcester Road is the spine of this area and it is frequent. Kings Heath station reopened on the Camp Hill line in 2025, which has made Stirchley and Kings Heath considerably easier to reach without a car, and parking on both high streets is limited enough that you should use it. Prices sit slightly below the Edgbaston line and slightly above the eastern suburbs. Note the hours before you travel: hedge opens Wednesday to Saturday only, which catches people out.
