Why there are so many

Erdington High Street is the sort of place where a business either lasts ninety years or ninety weeks. Williams Florist has managed the former, which makes it the oldest continuously trading florist on this entire list and, as far as I can establish, the longest-running flower shop in Birmingham. Lulu's on Slade Road and Clare-Zoe on Mason Road are both a short distance away and both do the steady, unglamorous work this part of the city actually needs: funerals, hospital visits, birthdays, and a lot of repeat customers who ring rather than click.

Push east across the Tyburn Road and you reach Clover Blooms in Castle Bromwich, which serves the estates out towards Smith's Wood and Chelmsley Wood. Its published funeral pricing is unusually clear for the trade, and in an area where a lot of the flower spend is sympathy work, that transparency is worth more than another award.

Getting around, and what it costs

Erdington, Chester Road and Gravelly Hill are all on the Cross City line, and Erdington High Street has cheap short-stay parking. Castle Bromwich is a car errand and honestly a slightly awkward one, sitting where it does between Spaghetti Junction and the M6. This is one of the more affordable corners of the city for flowers. Clover Blooms lists funeral letters from thirty-five pounds and standard bouquets in the forty to fifty-five range, which is a fair marker for the whole area.
