Eros Flowers
A staffed florist counter inside a Hodge Hill supermarket.

Eros Flowers is a proper florist counter that happens to sit inside the Tesco at Hodge Hill, and the location is the entire argument for and against it. Against: a supermarket concourse is not a shop you browse, there is no window, and the setting flattens any sense of a house style. For: it is open until 7pm Monday to Saturday, which is a full two hours after most Birmingham florists have locked up, and it is attached to a car park with a thousand spaces. That combination solves a real problem. The flower emergency is a genuine category, and it almost always happens after five o'clock. Every other shop in this guide has closed by then. Eros has not, it has an actual florist behind the counter rather than a bucket of wrapped stems by the tills, and it will still take a same-day delivery order up to 2pm. For the eastern suburbs that is a useful thing to know exists. What you should not expect is design. The online range runs to the standard occasions and reads much like every other Direct2Florist member's catalogue, because it largely is one. There is no evident signature, nothing seasonal being pushed, and no reason given anywhere to choose it over the shop nearest you if the shop nearest you is open. Judged as a florist it is unremarkable. Judged as the only florist still trading at half past six on a Thursday, it is the best in Birmingham by default.
Trading hours are 9am to 7pm Monday to Saturday and from 11am on Sunday, which is the widest availability on this list by a distance. Same-day delivery runs on a 2pm cut-off, and national and international orders go through Direct2Florist. The range is occasion-led: birthdays, sympathy, romance, new baby, with the usual add-ons. The counter is inside the store rather than a separate unit, so it keeps the store's hours rather than a florist's, which is the whole point of it.
Best for
Anyone who has remembered something at six in the evening, and anyone in Hodge Hill, Castle Bromwich or Bromford who wants a real arranged bouquet without driving to Erdington or Sutton before five.
What I would order
Phone ahead and ask them to make something up rather than buying from the website: the staffed counter is the part that has value, and the online catalogue is the part that does not. Give a budget and let them build it.
Worth knowing
There is no house style to speak of, and the online range is close to a stock catalogue shared with other network florists, so what you see on the site is not really a guide to what this counter can do. Prices are keen rather than cheap. Nothing published suggests any seasonal or sustainability policy at all, which is why it scores poorly there.
Open until 7pm six days a week, later than any other shop on this list.
Who it is not for
Anyone who wants a designed bouquet with a point of view. Two miles south, Beaufort Florists in Sheldon has four decades and an Interflora accreditation behind it and is a much better shop, provided you get there before it shuts.
How it compares
Clover Blooms in Castle Bromwich covers a lot of the same ground with clearer pricing and a real specialism in funeral work, but keeps short hours and closes on Tuesdays. Between them they cover this corner of the city: Clover Blooms for a planned order, Eros for a late one.
Getting there
Inside the Tesco Extra at Hodge Hill, off the A4040, with the store's own free parking. Buses along the Coleshill Road serve it well. It is one of the very few florists in this guide you can reach easily by car without a parking problem.
Where this assessment comes from
Desk research only. The location, hours and delivery cut-off are corroborated across several listings. The assessment of the range rests on comparing the published online catalogue with those of other network members, and the remark about the absence of a seasonal policy reflects the absence of any such claim on the site rather than knowledge of how the counter buys.
Sources consulted: The business's own website and its Birmingham delivery page, its Yelp and Yell listings, the Cylex Birmingham entry, and the Direct2Florist network pages that carry its range. Opening hours were taken from the business listings rather than the site.
This is a desk-based, opinion-led write-up, not an inspection: I have not audited this business, tested a delivery, or spoken to the owner.
