The Flower Garden
The same owner since 1991, on a lane most Birmingham guides never reach.

The Flower Garden is the best value florist on the western edge of Birmingham, and its strongest credential is the one that never appears in a round-up: the same person has owned it since 1991. Lisa Bailey has run this shop through thirty-five years of the trade being reshaped by supermarkets, then by the internet, then by delivery apps, from a shopfront on Woodgate Lane that has no passing tourist trade whatsoever. That is not luck. That is a shop the neighbourhood decided to keep. What it does well is reach. The delivery list covers Bearwood, Quinton, Weoley Castle, Rubery, Harborne, Edgbaston and out towards Halesowen, which is a large and awkward area that the citywide brands cover badly and the Edgbaston studios do not cover at all. If you are sending flowers to the far south west of the city, this is the shop that will actually get there, and get there for less than an Edgbaston studio charges to cross the road. The design is honest, conventional and unshowy. There is no signature and no stated sourcing policy, and the website is basic. None of that is why anyone uses this shop.
Trading is from the Woodgate Lane shop with same-day delivery across a wide western catchment. The offer is the standard neighbourhood range: hand-tied bouquets, arrangements, funeral tributes and wedding work, with per-area delivery pages covering Bearwood, Quinton, Weoley Castle, Rubery, Harborne and Halesowen. Thirty-five years of continuous single ownership is the longest unbroken run of any shop in the Harborne and Edgbaston section of this guide.
Best for
Anything going to the south west of the city: Bartley Green, Woodgate, Weoley Castle, Quinton, Rubery. Also the best value option for a delivery to Harborne or Edgbaston, where the local studios charge considerably more.
What I would order
Phone and describe who it is for and what you want to spend. This is a shop that will build to a budget rather than sell you a listed product, and the listed products are the least representative thing on the site.
Worth knowing
The website is dated and prices are not clearly published, so ordering means a phone call. There is no house style and no stated seasonality or sourcing position. The shop is genuinely awkward to reach without a car.
Lisa Bailey has owned the shop since 1991, one of the ten longest runs in this guide.
Who it is not for
Anyone who wants a design-led studio bouquet. Zanda B in Edgbaston is the opposite end of the same corner of the city.
How it compares
Sarah's Rose Garden in Quinton is the nearest comparable neighbourhood shop, a mile or so west, and publishes more about where its flowers come from. The Flower Garden has the longer record and the wider delivery reach.
Getting there
Woodgate Lane, Bartley Green, off the Woodgate Valley side of the city. There is parking on the lane, which is the main practical advantage over Harborne. Bus routes serve it but the journey from the centre is slow; this is a car errand or a delivery.
Where this assessment comes from
Desk research only. The 1991 ownership date is corroborated by the shop's own about page and by an independent round-up. Delivery coverage is taken from the shop's own per-area pages. The value judgement is a comparison against published prices elsewhere in this guide.
Sources consulted: The business's own website and about page, the Secret Birmingham flower shop round-up which carries the 1991 date and the ownership, its Yelp listing, and the Firmania and Florist Central directory entries.
This is a desk-based, opinion-led write-up, not an inspection: I have not audited this business, tested a delivery, or spoken to the owner. Everything above is one person’s reading of information that anyone can look up, and none of it represents the views of the owner of this domain. If you run this shop and something here is wrong or out of date, please tell me and I will fix it.
