The verdict

Sarah Kelly's Flower Room is the easiest florist in Birmingham to actually visit, and that is not a small thing. It sits on the A38 Bristol Road South at Longbridge with free customer parking directly outside the door, which almost no other shop in this guide can claim. Every other florist here comes with a parking problem, a tram ride or a walk from a station. This one you can drive to, stop outside, and be back in the car in five minutes. Sarah Kelly has run it since 2009 and the operation is tidy and well documented in a way that suggests someone who thinks about the customer's actual journey. The delivery list is published by postcode rather than by vague area name, covering B31, B45, B38, B29, B32, B60, B48 and B30, with a 2pm same-day cut-off. Bouquets run from thirty-five pounds to just under fifty. Opening is Tuesday to Friday, nine to six, and Saturday nine to five. The one thing to note is the Monday closure, which catches people out at the start of a week, and the fact that the shop closed Mondays is not always obvious from the listings. Beyond that this is a straightforward, good-value, well-organised neighbourhood florist with better logistics than shops twice its age.

The shop covers Northfield, Longbridge, West Heath, Rednal, Rubery, Barnt Green and Hopwood on same-day delivery with a 2pm cut-off, and handles national and international orders through the Direct2Florist network. Bouquets are priced from £35.00 to £49.99. The service list runs to custom arrangements, wedding flowers and bespoke funeral tributes, and the shop states seasonal buying as part of how it works, though without detail on sourcing.

Best for

Anyone in the far south of the city who wants to collect rather than have flowers delivered, and anyone sending to the Rubery, Rednal and Barnt Green fringe where the city ends and Worcestershire begins.

What I would order

Collect rather than pay for delivery if you are anywhere near the A38; the free parking is the whole advantage. Give them a budget between thirty-five and fifty and let them build to it.

Worth knowing

Closed on Mondays, which is easy to miss and awkward if you have a Monday funeral or a Monday anniversary. Delivery coverage is genuinely local rather than citywide, so check your postcode is on the list before assuming.

Advertises free customer parking right outside the door, a genuine rarity in this trade.

Who it is not for

Anyone needing a Monday order or a delivery to north or east Birmingham. The Flower Centre is two miles up the same road, open Monday, and covers a wider area.

How it compares

The Greenery at Kings Norton is the nearest comparable neighbourhood shop. Sarah Kelly's has the better published logistics and the parking; The Greenery has the better setting.

Getting there

On the A38 Bristol Road South at Longbridge, a few minutes from Longbridge station on the Cross City line, with free customer parking outside. The easiest florist in this guide to reach by car.

Where this assessment comes from

Desk research only. The 2009 founding date, prices, postcode coverage, cut-off and parking claim are all taken from the shop's own published pages, with the address and phone corroborated by third-party directories.

Sources consulted: The business's own website and its Kings Norton, Northfield and Longbridge delivery pages carrying the postcode list and prices, plus Thomson Local and Direct2Florist listings.
